About New BraunfelsSituated in Comal and Guadalupe counties, New Braunfels was established in 1845 by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels region of Germany and a group of German farmers and craftsmen. During the 19th century, its name was often spelled Neu-Braunfels. From New Braunfels tourists can reach Texas’ major cities. Austin is 40 miles to the north, San Antonio is 25 miles to the south, and Houston is 160 miles to the east.Just a short drive from New Braunfels you can visit the historic town of Gruene and Canyon Lake.
